Huge grunter at Coaling Wharf

We have again been told of good grunter fishing in Durban harbour over the past week.

Durban harbour has produced a great week of fishing for many.

Various anglers and charter boats reported quality grunter caught throughout the week and with this week's windy and rainy conditions predicted, many more anglers will find themselves on the water targeting a few of these fine fish.

The largest grunter reported over the last week came from the deeper water close to the Coaling Wharf and weighed in at over 7kg.

Another grunter of 6kg was landed off the banks close to St Ives Channel on the low tide.

Both these incredible fish were landed on cracker shrimp and a small size 6 Mustad.

Along the centre banks, catches of flathead (sand gurnard) have been keeping anglers busy on the incoming tide, with a variety of smaller fish also being caught on cracker.

For those who enjoy fly fishing, a small Crazy Charlie or similar fly fished on the bottom on the banks will produce excellent results.

Along with the flathead on fly, anglers can expect to hook into a variety of fish including kingfish, stumpies, pouter, perch and even a smaller grunter at times.
