Good fishing at Albert Falls

Good fishing at Albert Falls

Albert Falls, Inanda, Midmar, Shongweni and Hazelmere dams have been good to anglers recently.

Albert Falls and Hazelmere claimed the top spots over the last week with not only bass but also good catches of tilapia and carp.

Albert Falls has slowly started showing signs of its flood plains decomposing - good news for anglers. It attracts all forms of insect life which then attract the bigger species such as frogs that bass feed on. This will draw bass into the shallows which calls for precision casting.

Carp - Fishing in most of our dams has improved over the last two weeks as water temperatures steadily increase, with more of the smaller carp between 3kg and 10kg being landed. This can be extremely fun as there are more fish around and they feed readily on almost any bait presented. Sweet flavours/dips should be used to entice the fish to feed. Albert Falls and Inanda have been the dams of choice for carp over the last week.

Tiger Fish - Although at this time of year many of our local tiger hunters venture into other parts of Southern Africa to try to break their personal best catches, there is a lot of excellent fishing being missed out on, right on our doorstep. Jozini is within three hours drive for many of us in KZN and in these warmer months has some seriously good angling to be experienced. Over the last month some exceptional catches have been reported, with some parties landing over a hundred  fish in two days.
