Van der Walt, who missed several matches through injury this season, started at flank against the Jaguares.

Van der Walt believes the Sharks are blessed with great depth in the loose forward department.

"We are fortunate in having the depth we have at loose forward. I also think that we are a bunch of guys who get along very well. We support each other well and I think that is pretty important. One can get negative if you don't play regularly. That is always the tough part, but I think we push each other and we have also all had chances to play with various injuries this season," Van der Walt said.

Van der Walt is having fun at the Sharks.

"I enjoy playing with all our other loosies. I enjoy playing with Dan and Jean-Luc du Preez. They are good players and they bring a lot of energy to the team. Tera Mtembu and Keegan Daniel also make big contributions and then we still have other loosies that are just as good.  It is a good thing for the Sharks. I think the challenge is to manage us all and to give us all opportunities and to keep us on our toes. I think coach, Robert du Preez, has been doing it really well over the last few games," Van der Walt added.

Van der Walt is originally from Adelaide in the Eastern Cape and first made a name for himself at the Cheetahs.

"I was schooled at Adelaide Gymnasium all my years and after that I went to Bloemfontein to study. I played for the Free State and after that went to Biarritz in France. I did a BCom Human Resource management degree in the Free State and later did a post-graduate teaching course," Van der Walt revealed.

Keegan Daniel played club rugby on his return from injury this past weekend. Van der Walt hopes Daniel gets to play this weekend.

"We have so much depth and it is unfortunate that when a good player like Keegan is fit, someone else will have to miss out. Yet for his sake I hope he gets a run this weekend. Keegan provides a lot of leadership within our squad and adds a lot to the team. However, his selection is in the hands of the coach and all I can do is focus on my own job and hopefully I can keep playing. I feel every loose forward in our squad will feel that way. I suppose we will all have to adapt to whatever opportunities come our way," Van der Walt concluded.

The Sharks will host the Force in Durban this Saturday. Kickoff is at 15h05.

Rasta Rasivhenge will be the referee at Growthpoint Kings Park.
