Durban pompano fishing success

We have been told of good pompano fishing in Durban this week.

Beachwood had a fair number of anglers spinning in the mornings and has seen decent catches to show for their efforts. Natal snoek have been coming out on most mornings and have been taken on the Kingfisher Anchovy spoon as well as the Sea Iron Super Sprat. Maria Mucho Lucir spoons have once again produced a few bites during the midday hours which have comprised of mainly kingfish and pickhandle barracuda.

Durban has done well and despite its bad reports for the previous weeks, has managed to produce more fish than anybody could have expected. The piers have seen more pompano than any other spot along the coast, as well as a few very good sized grunter which have also taken sealice which have been used for the pompano. All beaches have had a lot of shad action and although in the middle of the closed season, anglers are having plenty of fun catching and releasing these large specimens. A lot of these fish are also being caught on lures, mainly the Daiwa D Minnow which has been used excessively over the last few months.
