The Dolphins open their Momentum One Day Cup campaign on Sunday at the City Oval in Pietermaritzburg.

A date with the Knights on an unpredictable surface in the provincial capital will be an interesting affair, but a number of players are just keen to get on with the show after a lengthy preseason.

Morne van Wyk captains the side once again this season and said he has not felt this excited for a campaign in a while.

"To be honest with you, I don't remember being this excited before a season for a very long time. It's just been about managing time and getting into a good space before we start on Sunday. Because once we start, we are going hit the ground running and play a lot of high-intensity matches in a short period of time," Van Wyk said.

"I personally think 50 over cricket is one of the tougher formats simply because it's so long, quite demanding in terms of skill levels and fitness and there is also a lot of travelling in between. We've had time to prepare and I think I speak for most of us when I say we all just want the games to start."

On the opposite side of the age-spectrum, 19-year-old Andile Phehlukwayo is excited to secure his spot in the side. Having played for KZN in the Africa T20 Cup last month, the young all-rounder said he was feeling fresh for the season ahead.

"I think it helped a lot (playing in the Africa T20 Cup). I know that with me, Sibs Makhanya and a couple of guys who are new to the franchise it was good preparation - a lot of T20. I learned a lot from the older players around. It's really exciting and I'm really keen for the season," Phehlukwayo said.

Play gets underway at 10h00 on Sunday in Pietermaritzburg.
