Dawn talks Boks win in Durban

Dawn talks Boks win in Durban

I have had an incredibly interesting week leading up to this much anticipated first Test. I spent some time with the boys at their hotel and managed to get an idea of their state of mind.

Our Coach, Heynecke, went on record to say that he has had a difficult week due to injuries and withdrawals. Our Fransie, withdrew from the Bok squad on Tuesday and this has caused quite a lot of unfairly negative press for him. For the record, I back  Fransie fully and we all need to respect his wishes and I hope that he recovers fully. My week ended on a high by having our Bokkie Mascot in studio on Friday and it was quite a lot of fun!

The Bad

As usual, Warren Gatland (Welsh coach), had a lot to say about what they would do to the boys and how they were going to cause an upset……well we are still waiting. I also was not happy with the IRB choice of referee in Romaine Poite. We did have quite a few off the ball incidents that were overlooked. Overall though, I think that …..wait for it……..Poite has somewhat redeemed himself. There I said it!

The Outstanding

Willie Le Roux had an absolutely outstanding performance at fullback. Guthro became a member of the rugby elite by earning his 50th Test Cap. Congratulations to winger, Cornal for scoring a try in his first test. Lood also had a really good 1st test and got in some great hits. Overall a very physically intimidating, outstanding performance by our Boks. They, however, let Wales in, in the second half and we need to be careful of that in the next test. The Welsh fans were absolutely amazing and I fell in love with their Church House Teddy Bear mascot!.

Habana was, as usual, outstanding. I would like to congratulate him and Janine on the birth of their first son, Timothy Jacob Habana.

Baby Blacks vs Baby Boks, IRB Junior World Championship 2014,

Auckland, Semi-final,  FT score 25-32

I would like to commend our Baby Boks on their absolutely outstanding win in NZ on Sunday. They overcame a terrible TMO decision in difficult conditions. The match had drama, passion, tension and sheer guts. It was closely contested by both teams and I was sweating in the last 10 mins. I am so very proud of the performance by our boys. Pollard , Sergeal and Andre were absolutely outstanding on attack and defence. Overall, a performance that we, as South Africans, can be proud of. This marks the Baby Boks second defeat of NZ on NZ soil!! Onwards and upwards to the Cup Final darling boys!
