The 66-year-old who had been suffering from brain cancer recently passed away in hospital this morning.

Rice travelled to India earlier this year to receive treatment for a cancer related brain tumour in Bangalore.

The robotic radiation treatment that Rice received at Bangalore's Health Care Global Hospital seemingly went well.

Sadly though the former all-rounder died this morning.

Rice ended his cricketing career in South Africa at Natal now the Sunfoil Dolphins captaining the Durban based team.

Although his career coincided directly with the country's sporting isolation Rice played 3 One Day Internationals against India in 1991.
