The BRICS Durban Beach Festival kicked off Thursday on the Durban beachfront with sand sculpting competitions, volleyball and beach soccer at North Beach and New Beach.

All members of the public are invited to play beach soccer and volleyball free of charge at North Beach. The festival is on daily until Sunday 24 March and ends on a high note with a world-class line-up of music entertainment.

Sunday's music concert on the beach starts at 1pm and entry is free to the first 1 000 people! The concert features some of South Africa’s best artists, who will play alongside acts from the other BRICS countries. Some of the highlights include Hugh Masakela, Micasa, Lindiwe and The Arrows.

They and many other talented musicians will be joined throughout the evening by DJs from Brazil, China and Russia, making the event truly world-class so don’t miss out! Be at New Beach at 1pm on Sunday.

There are so many events coming up on our beaches – stay tuned next week for angling competition news and updates about the Vodacom Easter Fever Beach Festivals at Margate and Ballito.

We have on-shore winds today, the NE’s will pick up to almost 20-knots later making for choppy seas with warm weather in Durban peaking at 29 degrees Celsius. The on- shores will continue tomorrow morning with more hot weather, but the wind will swing to SW’s on Saturday evening.

Sunday should see light variable winds blowing with slightly cooler weather peaking in the mid-20s.

Have a wonderful weekend!
