Defending champion, Andy Birkett, has won the opening stage of the 2017 FNB Dusi Canoe Marathon.
Sbonelo Khwela ended the first stage in second spot.
Khwela trails Birkett by 5 minutes 09 seconds.
Hank McGregor is third overall.
McGregor is 10 minutes and 26 seconds off the pace.
Abby Solms was the first woman home on the opening day.
She was followed by Christie MacKenzie.
MacKenzie trails Solms by 9 minutes 25 seconds.
Bridgitte Hartley completes the top three in the ladies race.
