Amla resigns as Proteas Test captain
Updated | By Gareth Jenkinson
Hashim Amla has announced his resignation as Test captain of the Proteas.
The announcement came immediately after the second Sunfoil Test against England ended in a draw.
Amla has struggled with his batting form in recent months - but produced a brilliant double-century in the 1st innings of the Newlands Test.
Despite his performance, the decision to step down had been made around two weeks ago, Amla told media in the post-match press conference.
It is not the first time Amla has relinquished his captaincy. He was previously appointed the skipper of the Sunfoil Dolphins - but chose to step down in order to focus on his batting.
AB de Villiers will take over the captaincy for the rest of the Test series against England.
