Zweliphansi Skhosana appears in court for Magaqa murder

A former senior official at
the Umzimkhulu Municipality, who has been implicated in the murder of Sindiso
Magaqa, will apply for bail later this week.

Zweliphansi Skhosana was previously arrested in 2018 alongside the late mayor of the Umzimkhulu Local Municipality and a hitman.
Skhosana was re-arrested by the SAPS Political Task Team in Malvern, south of Durban on Monday.
He is the former municipal manager of the southern KZN municipality.

Magaqa, who was the ANC Youth League secretary general, was gunned down in Umzimkhulu in July 2017 after allegedly exposing corruption within the municipality.
KZN National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Natasha Kara says Skhosana made his first appearance in the Umzimkhulu Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
"He appeared on charges of conspiracy to commit murder as well as murder. The other charges include firearm related charges and defeating the administration of justice. The case was remanded to 1 August 2025 for the defence to appoint counsel for the bail application."
