Zweli Mkhize prepared to take COVID-19 jab to dispel any fears

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said to ease fears around the COVID vaccine, he's prepared to take the shot soon.

"I will actually be ready to be the first few, if necessary. At that moment, the matter has been discussed as to how we deal with the leaders taking the vaccine," he said. 


He says he has been approached by many leaders who have said that some people are anxious and they are not sure these vaccines are safe. They will only see when the leaders take the vaccines.

Mkhize's been briefing the country this morning on our Covid vaccination rollout plan.

While the rollout of the AstraZeneca jab is still being discussed, the Minister says the Johnson & Johnson vaccines will likely arrive in SA next week. 


He says phase one of the vaccine rollout will take place soon. 


"The country has also secured doses from Pfizer for phase 1 roll-out. Our scientists are continuing to evaluate other candidates and we are simultaneously engaging manufactures. We are in advanced stages of evaluating and engaging the manufacturers of the Sputnik -V candidate."
