Zuma wants 'intelligence report' used to axe Gordhan

President Jacob Zuma has asked the Democratic Alliance (DA) to provide him with the so-called intelligence report he apparently used as reason to axe former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.

President Zuma has until tomorrow to provide the High Court with reasons for the reshuffle.

The report allegedly implicated Gordhan and his deputy Mcebisi Jonas in a plot to undermine President Zuma's government, with the assistance of international financial firms.

President Zuma's legal team also wants the DA to provide the source of the report.

The DA's James Selfe has branded the request as "preposterous".

"The 'intelligence report' was referred to in the media and by senior ANC office bearers. Of course we haven't seen it and to call for it is a time-wasting mechanism," says Selfe.

Selfe says their legal team is working on a response.

"The report was presumably in the possession of the president, because the president referred to it when he briefed the so-called top 6 in the ANC and if anybody can produce it, it is the president."

The Presidency declined to comment.
