Zikalala sends warning to criminals ahead of holiday season

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala says law enforcement will have a zero-tolerance to crime this festive season.

He was speaking in Durban on Tuesday at the launch of the province's anti-crime campaign in Durban.


"Key among crimes that we want to focus on, business robbery, house robbery, car-jacking cash in transit robberies, ATM bombings, casino robberies, filling stations.


"We will also be focusing on crimes that are in communities such as theft of pension, stokvel money. But will be also deal with cross border crime."


Zikalala says they also want to reduce road fatalities.


He has urged road users to be responsible and exercise caution on the road this festive season as high traffic volumes are expected.


"We wish to urge all road users to take extra caution during this festive period because of traffic congestion. 


"This period ends up not being a festive one, but a time of sorrow and grief for some families because of road fatalities.


"KwaZulu-Natal continues to be associated with high road deaths and accidents. 


"Yesterday we learned of a crash involving a truck and three light motor vehicles on the N2 near Phongola. Four people lost their lives and six were injured.”
