Zandile Gumede claims corruption case politically motivated
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Former eThekwini Mayor, Zandile Gumede maintains she's innocent.
Gumede and 15 co-accused appeared briefly in the Durban Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday.
They are facing fraud and corruption charges relating to a R208 million solid waste tender.
In court this morning, the State revealed that documents had been seized which point to further payments made in the tender scandal.

The court heard the documents found in the home of municipal official Sandile Ngcobo show some of the accused were paid a further R181 million between July 2018 and June last year.
The prosecution said it needed six months to wrap up investigations and will then be ready to go to trial.
Gumede's supporters had hoped the case against her would be dropped saying they believe there's no evidence against her.
Outside court, the former mayor told supporters the case against her was politically motivated.
"There is a supply chain department responsible for issuing out these tenders, there is no signature that we put down on this tender deal. So the question is, where are the people who signed these documents? Why are they not the ones inside the court," she said.
She will be back in court on 16 April.
