WoF ‘prepared’ for KZN winter fire season
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
As the country moves into winter, firefighters are urging
communities, conservation groups, and local municipalities to prepare for the
upcoming fire season.

Working on Fire says it's trained and deployed more than 900 firefighters across 41 bases in KwaZulu-Natal.
The province experienced one of its most devastating winter fire seasons last year, particularly in the Midlands, where 14 farm workers and firefighters tragically lost their lives.
Over 500 livestock were killed, and hectares of grazing land were also burned to ashes.
In a recent incident in Durban, a man was killed and a woman critically injured in a house fire in Phoenix last night.

Last week, a fire at the Effingham informal settlement destroyed 22 shacks and claimed the life of a 29-year-old woman.
Working on Fire spokesperson Linton Rensburg says coordination and community readiness are critical to keeping residents and animals safe.
" We are confident that we are ready for the upcoming winter fire season. Of course, we also have some aerial firefighting resources that will be based or throughout some parts of KwaZulu-Natal to ensure that we also have aerial firefighting resources available.
"Our fire awareness department has had a number of engagements with communities throughout KwaZulu-Natal to prepare our communities for the upcoming winter fire season."
