Western Cape storm warning upped to level 8

The Western Cape Disaster Management Centre is preparing for cold fronts from Sunday until Friday.

The centre's head, Colin Deiner, says multiple weather warnings have been issued for heavy rain, high winds with gusts of over 100 kilometres per hour,and disruptive snowfall. 

 

The South African Weather Service has upgraded today's warning for damaging winds to Level 8. 

 

Deiner says they are on standby, with emergency services ready to respond. 

 

Residents have been urged to stay safe, monitor weather reports, and avoid unnecessary travel.

 

"We have received a level four warning for heavy rains and potential flooding over the western parts of the Eastern Cape on Sunday for high winds. We also have a warning for snow and high waves."
