Water strike: eThekwini appeals for patience
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
eThekwini Municipality has appealed to residents affected by the waste and water workers' strike to be patient, saying it is trying to bring an end to the industrial action.
Municipal workers at the Pinetown and Springfield depots downed tools on Wednesday. It is understood they are demanding a grade 10 salary increase - after MK veterans employed by the city were upgraded from a grade 4 salary category.
After talks with the employer, union leaders have gone back to their members with the latest offer. The municipality's Msawakhe Mayisela says ...
"We request the public bare with us while we try our best to ensure the public has access to clean water", he said.
"Where there have been disruption to supply we are trying to supplement that with our water tankers, but we are working around the clock to return the situation to normality", Mayisela said.
