WATCH: South coast fisherfolk ready for sardine run
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
A large group of fisherfolk gathered on Friday morning at Rocky Bay Beach, where they hoped to net a shoal of sardines.

A surprising catch at the weekend set the annual sardine run in motion on the south coast.
Three crews comprising around 35 men and women made their way down to the shore just before sunrise.
They took up positions along the sand and patiently waited with fishing nets and equipment in hand.

The teams include fishermen, skippers, divers, netters, and a group of women who will sort and pack the silvery catch into crates.
Once the sardines are spotted, the divers will move in first, followed by ski boats, and nets will be dropped to haul the fish in.
On Tuesday, multiple crates were filled at Scottburgh and Rocky Bay.
