Locals teed off from Oleander Road and Lynroy Avenue on Saturday for their Pothole Golf Day campaign.

And the prize? Getting Msunduzi Municipality to fix their roads.

Chairperson of the Cleland/Meadows Residents and Ratepayers Association, Jacyn Fanner, says they've been reporting road issues for nearly four years.

"So we decided how we are going to get the attention of something happening in our ward in relation to the rates that we pay which we are not seeing with our roads, street lights - the list goes on.

"So, we decided how we are going to get the attention of the powers that be. We decided to host a golf day to actually show just how bad the roads are; that's how the whole concept came about."

Resident Maureen Govender says its a never-ending fight with the city to get service delivery.

"Where we live, there are potholes all over the place. People are dodging potholes to avoid hitting them. There is no road anymore. Potholes and dirt road almost, that's what the tarred road has become. You can't actually avoid a pothole. You avoid one, you go into another. That's how bad it is."

Msunduzi Municipality's Ntobeko Mkhize says a budget for road upgrades has been made available in the mid-term budget review.

"Those roads are as a result of an aged infrastructure, but the municipality has put them on the programme for an upgrade."
