Cele arrived at the station on Thursday and was whisked into an extensive meeting with management.

He then conducted an oversight visit of the station and visited the workshop where police cars are repaired.

He also met two female artisans who work with the vehicles and visited a training centre where SAPS members in the eThekwini region were being trained on how to work on diversity.

The visits come as part of a programme where MECs and other government stakeholders of various safety departments visit some stations identified as the biggest contributors of contact crimes.

Around ten stations have been earmarked for this in the Durban and Pietermaritzburg area.
