WATCH: Cele on surprise visit to Durban Central Police Station

Police Minister Bheki Cele is paying a surprise visit at the Durban Central Police Station.
Cele arrived at the station on Thursday and was whisked into an extensive meeting with management.
He then conducted an oversight visit of the station and visited the workshop where police cars are repaired.

He also met two female artisans who work with the vehicles and visited a training centre where SAPS members in the eThekwini region were being trained on how to work on diversity.
The visits come as part of a programme where MECs and other government stakeholders of various safety departments visit some stations identified as the biggest contributors of contact crimes.
Around ten stations have been earmarked for this in the Durban and Pietermaritzburg area.

Other police officials will be visiting, amongst others, the Umlazi and Inanda police stations.
Inanda and Umlazi are notorious for having some of the highest rape and murder statistics in the country.
They will also be visiting Phoenix police station as well as Plessislaer.
