WATCH: 300 undocumented workers found in factory raid
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Authorities were verifying the identities of hundreds of
workers on Thursday afternoon following a police raid at a clothing
factory in KwaDukuza.

Earlier in the day, police descended on a facility in Shakaville that manufactures fashion items and workwear.
They were tipped off about the employment of some 300 undocumented foreign nationals at the factory.
KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said the factory is one of several in the area identified as employing undocumented workers.
" Thus far, the Home Affairs officials working with us have confirmed about over 50 foreign nationals who have been employed here with fraudulent papers. That's why they are being loaded into the vehicle right now. But the auditing of the rest of the staff is continuing to try and establish how many more are being employed in this factory."

The owner of the factory and the manager have been arrested.
KZN Premier Thami Ntuli, who was on the scene, says he hopes the raid will send a clear warning to other business owners who continue to flout labour and immigration laws.
" The owner of this factory is saying she employed them because she thought they were legal, because they produced the documents. I'm not quite sure whether that is correct or not, because some of the people are saying even the documents are made inside here. So, we're not quite sure who's telling what is correct and who's also not giving the correct info.
"But what is worrying for the people of the province, and the economy is that this has a bearing on the issue of the job opportunities available for the people who are here."
The verification process is underway at the Jan&C clothing factory in KwaDukuza, where police raided the facility earlier. Premier Ntuli warned business owners not to hire undocumented foreign nationals or face the might of the law. The owner of the factory has been arrested pic.twitter.com/ouhYTAPOJP
