Wanted suspects shot dead in La Mercy

Police have killed three suspects wanted for violent crimes in Inanda in a shootout in La Mercy, north of Durban, on Wednesday morning.

KZN SAPS spokesperson Jay Naicker says they were tipped off that the gang was hiding at the Lungelani informal settlement.
He says the suspects were wanted for serious crimes, including murder.
"A team comprising of various police disciplines, including members of the Hawks, descended on the location. Realising that they were surrounded, the suspects opened fire at the police, and a shootout ensued.
"Three suspects were fatally wounded during the shootout, and two pistols were found in the possession of the suspects. It is believed that other members of the group managed to escape during the shooting."
Naicker says it's believed some members of the group escaped.
A manhunt is underway for the remaining suspects.
