Vryheid security guards demand payment of outstanding salaries
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
A group of security guards who were contracted to a municipal service provider in Vryheid say it has been a long seven-month period since they received their salaries.
The group padlocked a gate leading into the Hlobane Community Complex in Vryheid demanding answers from the Abaqulusi Municipality.
As seen in the video, the peaceful protesters turned away a municipal electricity unit vehicle that tried to enter the complex.
The workers claim that since May, they've been preventing a new contracted security company from working at six sites in the area.
One of the protesters, Vuyani Plaatjie says they're not budging until they get answers about their salaries.
