This week, Innocent Dubazane was handed a life term in prison for the murder of Nonsikelelo Xaba in February.

Her body was found in a ditch in the Mondlo area.

Police linked Dubazane to the crime through evidence found at his home, including her blood-stained shoes.

"In sentencing him, the Vryheid Regional Court found that he and the deceased were in a domestic relationship," said KZN NPA spokesperson Natasha Ramkissoon-Kara.

"The court also found that there were no substantial and compelling circumstances to deviate from the minimum sentence of life imprisonment.

"Dubazane was thus sentenced to life imprisonment, and he was declared unfit to possess a firearm."
