Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
eThekwini Municipality says a social media post claiming that a shark had washed up on a Durban beach is fake news.

Bogus images were widely shared online on Tuesday, showing that a great white shark had washed ashore.
The city issued a notice on its Facebook page last night after a surge in online reactions to the post.

eThekwini says there were no animal incident reports at beaches in Durban.
Instead, it appears that the photos of the shark were taken by a photographer at Outer Banks Beach in the state of North Carolina in the US.
