Vicki Momberg sentenced to three years over racial slur
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Vicki Momberg, the woman who racially abused a black policeman in 2016, has been sentenced to three years in prison, with one year suspended.
Magistrate Pravina Rugoonandan handed down the sentence in Randburg.
Momberg's tirade was captured on video after she had been the victim of an alleged smash-and-grab incident in Johannesburg.
She lashed out at the officer who had gone to help her. Rugoonandan says she wants the sentence to serve as a deterrent.
"The state presented that the 'K' word was used 48 times throughout the incident. The situation not only calls but society demands that drastic measures have to be taken to stop this behaviour. Enough of this," Rugoonandan said.
The court will now hear an application by Momberg's legal team to appeal the sentence.
