Vaccine certificate: SA Human Rights Commission raises constitutional concerns

The South African Human Rights Commission says it's concerned the issuing of vaccine certificates may pose a potential threat to human rights.

The SAHRC was reacting to President Cyril Rampahosa's announcement on Thursday that vaccine certificates will be issued by the department of health.

Chairperson Bongani Majola says if the government goes ahead with this plan, it must be careful it does not infringe on the constitutional rights of citizens.

"The constitution contains a particular section which regulates the limitation of people's rights", he said.

"So if the vaccine passports are implemented to limit people's rights then it has to be in a way that complies with that section of the country's constitution", Majola said.
