US Embassy in SA says 50k resettlement inquiries made
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The US Embassy in South Africa says it has so far received almost 50,000 inquiries about the refugee resettlement programme in America.

US President Donald Trump offered asylum to white Afrikaner farmers, whom he says are facing racial persecution and are being targeted and killed.
Our government has strongly denied the claims, explaining that the country has high crime levels that affect everyone.
The first group of white South Africans arrived in America last month.
Reports have emerged that a second group of nine people arrived in the country last Friday.

In a statement, the US Embassy in Pretoria said it continues to review inquiries from those who have expressed interest in the programme.
It confirmed that it's reaching out to eligible individuals for refugee interviews and processing.
The embassy said refugees continue to arrive in the US from South Africa on commercial flights as part of the resettlement program’s ongoing operations.
