Ramaphosa was speaking at non-profit organisation the Aryan Benevolent Home's fundraising gala dinner at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli ICC in Durban at the weekend.

"The events that are unfolding now are not events that should make us scared of the future that beckons," said Ramaphosa.

Ramaphosa's comments come amid growing calls for President Jacob Zuma to step down, following a dramatic cabinet reshuffle last week.

President Zuma axed five ministers, including Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.

Gordhan has been replaced by former Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba, with fears that the country could be downgraded to junk status by international ratings agencies.

Ramaphosa said the country and the ANC must unite to make the county corruption free.

"Unite our movement. Unite our country around one goal - a goal of making South Africa corruption free, a goal of making South Africa a South Africa we can all be proud of and getting rid of greedy people, corrupt people within our land," said Ramaphosa.
