Unit 3 at Kusile back online ahead of schedule

Eskom has announced the return to service of Unit 3 at Kusile Power Station in Mpumalanga.
It is the first of the three units which collapsed in October 2022 to be brought back online.
It was returned to service on Saturday, two months ahead of schedule.
"This will improve the available generation capacity by 800 megawatts once loaded to full capacity,” said Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokoena.
"It marks a significant milestone in Eskom’s efforts to reduce and ultimately end load shedding.
"The switch-on was done after receiving the positive decision on the Kusile Atmospheric Emission Licence appeal from then Minister of Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment and the Nkangala District Municipality."
Mokoena also confirmed that load shedding will remain suspended during the day on Sunday, with stage 2 to be implemented at 16:00 until 05:00 on Monday.
