Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
uMhlathuze Water's promised uMkhanyakude's residents that drinking water will be made available to parts of the district that need it by the end of next month.

The water board met with management at the municipality to thrash out -- what it calls a bold plan -- to solve the district's water crisis.
The utility was roped in by the Minister of Water and Sanitation Senzo Mchunu, after the district was granted a licence to draw raw water from Jozini Dam.

uMhlathuze's Siyabonga Maphumulo says their aim is to improve water infrastructure in the area.
"Under phase one of this resuscitation which will begin next month priority will be given to the rehabilitation of an elevated water steel tank, damaged or missing pipelines and the installation of a booster pump.
"Communities from these identified areas will have access to clean drinking water before Christmas."
