Umhlanga bridge collapse a controlled demolition
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
The company that's doing the construction on the N2 in Umhlanga says there will be many more controlled demolitions at the Mouth Edgecombe interchange, as they are are bringing down all temporary structures.
Italian Company - CMC South Africa - has since clarified that it was not a bridge that was deliberately brought down earlier this afternoon - but rather a temporary platform.
The platform, which is used to build segments of the bridge, was demolished because it was no longer needed in the project.
Environmental Control Officer, Keenan Israel says they are still busy demolishing the platform.
"We are still currently in the process. This is the first structure we have started, with one side has been completed. We are currently busy with the left hand side of the structure, so everybody please stay calm," he said.
The Umhlanga Interchange HAS NOT COLLAPSED.They're demolishing their casting yard where they built portions of the bridge. Nothing wrong.
