uMgungundlovu tanker drivers accused of selling water
Updated | By Andile Tsotetsi
uMgungundlovu District Municipality is investigating claims that water tanker drivers have been selling water to desperate residents.

It follows a letter from DA ward councillor Tanki Tsoananyana alleging that people in the Mkhambathini area sometimes wait more than a week for their public JoJo tanks to be refilled.
It also claims one water tanker serves several communities, with demand far outstripping supply.
Municipal spokesperson Brian Zuma says no official complaints against drivers have been made.

" These allocations are not surfacing for the first time. We have a service provider that is providing tankers to service people with water. It is the service provider that is responsible for the people who are driving those water tankers. However, the company is accountable to us in terms of whether they're doing justice in terms of the service that they're providing."
He says the municipality is prepared to act against the drivers if the evidence is provided.
" Thank you very much to the councillor who reported the allegations, but it's not good enough. Councillors must be able, because they're members of the same council that is responsible for providing water services, to go out there and encourage people to report such people, get evidence, take pictures, take number plates of those cars, so that you are able to take action on the basis of evidence.
"This is what we are requesting. That is the action that you're saying will help us to be able to deal adequately with this allegation."
