Umgeni Water postpones scheduled maintenance plan
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Umgeni Water says it has increased the amount of water it supplies to the three municipalities set to experience a 16-hour water shutdown this week in order to ensure there are no shortages during that period.
The shutdown was originally scheduled for today but has been postponed to Thursday.
The utility's Shami Harichunder says after discussions with eThekwini, Umgungundlovu District Municipality and Umsunduzi, they were asked to postpone their work because of the severe heat.
He says the shutdown of water supply is due to start at 8am on Thursday.
"Umgeni Water has to conduct some essential work. It's a kind of a raw water pipeline to connect to Midmar Water Treatment Plant. This work is essential in order to increase the security of water supply in the future. It is extremely important for this work be conducted," he said.
