There were violent disruptions again this morning at Howard College campus.

KZN police spokesperson - Jay Naicker says protesters went into the Shepstone Building and used a fire extinguisher on students waiting to register.

"They then proceeded to set burns on fire on the campus. Members of the police's public order police unit were deployed to arrest the offenders," says Naicker.

The students ran into various parts of the campus when approached by police.

The fire was extinguished and police are monitoring the situation on the campus. No injuries were reported to police thus far.

The protesting students want the university to allow returning students who owe money to be allowed to register.

UKZN spokesperson - Ashton Bodrick says registration will continue despite the disruptions.

He has this message for first-year students - some of whom have told Newswatch they've been frustrated and terrified by this week's events.

"University in all its wisdomand all staff, the deans, the lectures are looking forward to seeing you and we will make sure that you're protected continuously on the university."
