KZN Hawks spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo says the two suspects briefly appeared at the Durban Magistrate's Court.

"They are facing charges of hijacking as well as kidnapping. They will remain in custody and appear in the same court on the 26th of June for further investigation and bail application."

Mhlongo says the duo appeared in court on Monday after Hawks officials spotted them driving along the M25 towards Inanda on Friday.

Two people were arrested while a third suspect was killed following an exchange of gunfire with police, who found and rescued the hostage.
