Two killed, dozens displaced in Chatsworth shack fire

A fire in Chatsworth, south of Durban, has
claimed the lives of two people.

The blaze at the Sukamuva Informal Settlement in Crossmoor broke out on Friday night and raged into the early hours of Saturday morning.
eThekwini Municipality says firefighters spent hours battling the flames.
Spokesperson Gugu Sisilana says the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

She says disaster officials have been assisting displaced families with food, blankets, and temporary shelter.
"The blaze destroyed about 15 informal structures and tragically claimed the lives of two residents," said Sisilana.
"A further 22 families, including young children were left displaced."
