A KwaZulu-Natal snake specialist says he was relieved that no-one had an encounter with two black mambas that were removed out of a home in Inanda, north of Durban.

Nick Evans from the KwaZulu-Natal Amphibian and Reptile Conservation, says he was called out to a home of four adults in Mphepetheni yesterday, when they suspected that a unknown snake was hiding inside their bedroom cupboard on Monday night.

Upon searching the room, he discovered that its was in fact a black mamba that had coiled itself inside a clothing drawer.

But as he removed the snake, he heard a familiar sound.

"As I picked up the first mamba, I heard a very familiar sound. It was the sound of a mamba sliding around [somewhere in the cupboard]. I placed the mamba that I had in the cupboard and got another bucket. I moved it back slightly and pulled it away from the wall. As I did that, it fell. It had squeezed itself between the cupboard and the wall," Evans said.

Evans says he will soon release both the mambas back to nature this week.
