Two to appear on charges of human trafficking

The Johannesburg Metro Police's K9 Unit arrested the two suspects for alleged human trafficking and rescued four women in Randburg on Thursday.

The victims, three of whom are from the Northern Cape and one from Riverlea, told police they were raped and that inappropriate photos were them were taken by force.

According to a statement by the Office of the MMC for Public Safety, "their semi-nude photos were then posted on a website called 'Red Velvet' to solicit prostitution business."

"The women also say that they have been held captive at the premises against their will," reads the statement.

Police have meanwhile taken the women to a place of safety while one has already been reunited with her family.

Member of Mayoral Committee for Public Safety, Michael Sun says they will continue to target criminal syndicates and will not tolerate "such heinous acts of crime".

JMPD, along with other law enforcement agencies will meanwhile continue to clamp down on brothels and human trafficking in the city.
