Twitter reacts to Ramaphosa-Steenhuisen exchange
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Online users have posted varied reactions after the President Cyril Ramaphosa struggled to remain calm during yesterday's Q and A session in the National Assembly.
The DA's John Steenhuisen continuously heckled the President while he was speaking about how developing economies around the world have embraced a national minimum wage.
Presiding chairperson, Cedric Frolick had to interject after Ramaphosa told Steenhuisen to 'shut up.'
Some online users have argued that Parliament is robust in nature, while others have criticised the opposition for failing to listen.
Steenhuisen also took to Twitter, saying 'We must always speak up and speak out, it’s how democracy is sustained.'

To tweeps celebrating that the President told me to “shut up”, laugh now but take note. It starts with the opposition being told to shut up, it will soon move to the media and pretty soon all will be “shut up”We must always speak up and speak out, it’s how democracy is sustained.

Quick survey, what's more annoying and irritating? Retweet if you think it's John Steenhuisen and like if you think it's a mosquito. (25 marks) #RamaphosaQandA #DeLille #JohnSteenhuisen pic.twitter.com/N1zs0phbF8

1. Everyone is heckled, it Parly culture
2. Be Strong, even JZ who was heckled relentlessly, didn’t scream “shut up”
3. This is Parliament. Thick skin.
Part of your job is to push and break the President. To show him up. This is a foundation of denorcacy since it's inception in Athens. Parrhesia is protected in Parliament.
