Twitter names 'O jewa ke eng?' most retweeted tweet

South African social media personality Keabetswe Jan's "O jewa ke eng?" has been named among the most retweeted tweets with a comment worldwide.

The 19-year-old nursing student posted the question on 5 January and it went viral globally. 


The phrase is in Sesotho and loosely translates to "What's bothering you?" 


The tweet continues to resonate with people, with users from around the world replying to it daily to share their problems and concerns, and ask for help.

In an interview with Medium.com she explained her inspiration behind the tweet."I’m always all about knowing how people are doing and how they’re feeling, what they want in life and all about them expressing themselves. So I tweeted “O jewa ke eng” with the genuine intention of knowing what was eating/bothering people."


According to Twitter, the Jan's "O jewa ke eng?" tweet shared the top spot with other popular phrases like “Sco pa tu manaa” and “Bomboclaat”.


“Sco pa tu manaa” apparently means “What experience does this remind you of?”


“Bomboclaat,” is said to be a phrase used by people from the Caribbean to strongly react to something.
