Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
A truck driver was killed in a freak accident in Pinetown's Westmead area.

A 20-tonne shipping container he was transporting detached and collapsed onto his cabin on Thursday morning.
Paramedics raced to Imola Place, where it's believed the trucker was attempting to make a turn.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson says that's when the container filled with timber tragically came crashing down on him.

"The driver, believed to be in his thirties, was found severely entrapped in the cabin. He had sustained fatal injuries, and there was nothing more paramedics could do for him. He was declared deceased on the scene.
"The Netcare 911 Rescue unit, together with the eThekweni Fire Department, used the jaws of life and other hydraulic equipment to try to free the driver. At this stage, the events leading up to the accident are unknown; however, SAPS will be investigating further."
