Updated | By Lauren Beukes
A Durban truck driver was accosted and his vehicle looted of over 200 cases of tinned fish in Merebank on Wednesday.
First responders PT Alarms security arrived at the scene on Wednesday morning on Himalayas Road in the Durban south area.
They found a container truck stuck just underneath the bridge.
PT Alarms' Dhevan Govindsamy says the truck driver told them that two bakkies stopped behind him, and the suspects told him to remain seated inside the vehicle.
"They broke the seal of the container, and a lot of packs of tinned fish were loaded into the bakkie. They fled towards Umlazi. A client that was driving past witnessed that and phone us.

"We responded and managed to secure the balance of the container until the trucking company and their security responded."
He says this was not an isolated case.
"This has been happening frequently. Similar vehicles have reported these incident in the Jacobs area where trucks parked off to enter factory shortage facilities have been tampered with and their locks broken. A few weeks ago a truck carrying 20 to 30 sheep were taken from the vehicle twice."
