Transport union condemns ongoing Transnet vandalism
Updated | By Nondumiso Dube
The United National Transport Union (Untu) says the ongoing vandalism and attacks on Transnet's infrastructure are deeply concerning.
The union's Sonja Carstens has been commenting on the fire that broke out in a Blue Train coach in Pretoria this week.
"Transnet has been experiencing unprecedented threats since the start of the lockdown in 2020 and it is really making such a devastating impact on the business."
The luxury train was being repaired after its empty coaches derailed in Germiston in November.

Three people were seen fleeing the engineering facility after Tuesday's fire.
One person has been nabbed.
Carstens says the government's failed to get to the bottom of these attacks.
"Transnet used to be a financial sustainable state-owned enterprise. It reported a loss of R8.2 billion in the 2020/2021 financial year. So obviously, this is taking a toll on the South African economy."
