Tragedy strikes at La Mercy Lagoon as father, son and pet dog drown

A father, his teenage son and their family pet have drowned at a beach north of Durban.
It’s understood they got into difficulty while swimming at La Mercy Lagoon earlier this afternoon.
Their dog went in to try and save them.
Netcare911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst says the father is believed to have been in his forties, and the boy 14, "Reports indicate that an adult male and a male minor including their pet dog had drowned after swimming at an unprotected beach."
"All were declared deceased after being removed from the surf," says Herbst.Circumstances leading up to the incident will be investigated by the relevant authorities.
