Traffic flowing again on Bayhead Road amid rehab project
Updated | By Lauren Hendricks
Traffic is flowing freely again on Bayhead Road after eThekwini metro police responded to mounting pressure from Bluff residents.

The road is a vital link within the Port of Durban, providing access to terminals, warehouses, and industrial sites.
Ward 66 councillor Zoe Solomon says residential roads were chaotic on Wednesday, after a six-month road rehab project started.
She says the most significant issue was illegally parked trucks along the port route.
" Everybody's day started really badly because we didn’t expect the Bay Head area to be a controlled issue. We knew that it wouldn't be smooth sailing, and we'd have to all ease into the problems that were going to arise.

"But the Bluff is an island, and once those trucks have entered our space, we are now stuck with gridlocked issues. Breakdowns and jackknives have thrown us into what I can honestly describe as a panic.
Transnet says the upgrade aims to improve safety, ease congestion, and boost operations.
13,000 vehicles use the route daily, with nearly half of them being trucks.
Transnet says traffic will be managed through phased lane closures, detours, and a detailed plan to maintain flow.
