The city, KZN Transport and Transnet are being sued for damage suffered by the car manufacturer during the April 2022 floods.
Toyota SA's insurer - Tokio Marine and Nichido Fire Insurance - says the floods caused extensive damage to its Prospecton plant, south of Durban, leaving the company with a bill of more than R6 billion.
According to a statement, the insurer is claiming over R4 billion for repairs and restoration work, and around R2 billion for business interruption.

In the summons filed at the Durban High Court, the company argues that the three public bodies failed to maintain critical infrastructure, and should have known that neglecting these responsibilities could result in major flooding.
Transnet, the KZN Department of Transport, and the eThekwini Municipality are all listed as defendants in the case.
The city told NewsWatch that the matter has been brought to their attention
The Transport MEC Siboniso Duma is expected to brief the media on Friday afternoon.
