The South African Weather Service has placed parts of KwaZulu-Natal on alert for heavy downpours.

Forecaster Julius Mahlangu says they've issued a level 2 warning for the western region, as well as the Midlands.

"These thunderstorms are expected to be accompanied by heavy downpours, strong damaging winds."

"There is also a possibility of some hail, which might lead to structural damages, and localised flooding. People are advised to really take care, especially in the afternoon going into the evening."

Mahlangu says they are expecting more rain over the weekend.

"This coming Saturday, there are good chances of some rain, possibly some severe thunderstorms also in some parts of the province. But the alert in that regard will be issued probably tomorrow."
