Tighter policing at varsities needed after shooting of ex-KZN student leader – Sasco

The South African Students Congress says there needs to be more police visibility at universities.
It follows the killing of one of its former branch conveners outside Mangosuthu University of Technology in Durban.
Xolani Ngema was gunned down on Tuesday. Police are investigating a case of murder.

Sasco's Sizwe Luthuli says it's not the first time that such an incident has happened at a KwaZulu-Natal university.
He says the time has come for action from government.
"We are appealing for these killings to end in institutions of higher learning. Government must expedite the process of installing police that will do a rotation to ensure that the safety of students within and outside campuses."

Meanwhile, the DA in KZN has also reacted to Ngema's death, saying it will write to the city manager and law enforcement to recommend concrete measures to curb crime in the city.
